THE LOS ANGELES ZOO

The Los Angeles Zoo in Griffith Park is something you don't want to miss when visiting the city. Not only it is home to more than 1,400 animals and around 270 different species, including almost 50 endangered ones, it is also more affordable compared to many similar animal attractions and zoos. But the reasons why you should visit this incredible zoo don't stop here. The Los Angeles Zoo organizes several special events and activities that differentiate it from the other zoos in the country. The accurately constructed botanical gardens include more than 800 plant species and are also worth mentioning.

Why Should You Visit The Los Angeles Zoo

The current Los Angeles Zoo opened in 1966, replacing what was before called the Griffith Park Zoo, and you can see the difference between the facilities of the two zoos. There have been modernization and innovating efforts to make the zoo look "fresh" and up to date. Additionally, the Los Angeles Zoo is modern in terms of the humane treatment of animals and terms of the events organized. The animals all have plenty of space and their ecosystems have been re-created with detailed and careful attention to details.

What Can You Do At the Zoo

LA's zoo is organized into different zones, including the Campo Gorilla Reserve, home to six gorillas and the Rainforest of the Americas. Other areas include the Elephants of Asia where you'll be able to familiarize yourself with Asian elephants and learn about the challenges these animals face in the wild. The Australia section is home to kangaroos, koalas, echidna, wallabies and endangered Southern hairy-nosed wombat, among other species.

Apart from the obvious things you can do at the Los Angeles Zoo, which is watching and learning about animals, this zoo also has quite a lot to offer to its visitors during nighttime. Probably the most famous event is the popular LA Zoo Lights, rated one of the best zoo lights in the United States.

Some Tips To Make The Best Out Of Your Visit

The zoo spans across more than 113 acres, meaning that you'll probably have to walk a lot to see everything. Wear comfortable shoes to make the most out of it! Also, remember to grab a map before starting your visit to make your tour more effective, there are so many things to see, you don't want to miss out anything. At the entrance, you can also check the schedule for shows and animal feeding if you are interested to assist at some of those. It might be worth it!

Another tip, if you wish to avoid the crowds, is to visit the Los Angeles Zoo on weekdays. Avoid mornings, where you might have to deal with many school groups. All in all, LA's zoo is an attraction that you should dedicate your time to. Plan to spend at least a couple of hours, to fully enjoy your visit. If you are visiting it with your kids, there is no doubt they will have fun! What are you waiting for? Start getting organized for a visit to this fantastic zoo: you won't regret it!
